Auctions – one of the ways for money raising
The women civic initiative “Antiko” is a multi-ethnic NGO-network, founded in 1999 by 14 women NGO leaders from 7 local communities in the Republic of Macedonia.
Its mission is to promote the culture of peace and non-violence by creating a safe common space for realizing the common goals, which are:
- Improving the women position in the Macedonian society;
- Developing multi-ethnic relations and cooperation as well as active participation of women in the processes of identifying and resolving the community problems and building the civil society.
At the moment, the women civic initiative “Antiko” is implementing three programmes: Peace with myself – peace with everyone; Women and the society; and Supporting the process of strengthening the NGO-members’ institutional and technical capacities.
The humanitarian event under the motto “For a life without violence” was a result of a trained team initiative for raising money within the project “Strengthening the selected organizations’ capacities”, which is financially supported by EAR (European Agency for Reconstruction) and implemented by DRC (Danish Refugee Council).
The auction was organized in order to raise money for providing beds and other necessary equipment for the Crisis Centre “Nadez” (“Antiko” network member), as well as for the additional network activities in this area. .
The structures and members of “Antiko” are very pleased with this successfully organized activity. All organizations – network members, groups and individuals, government institutions, the business-sector, the media and a number of artists gave their contribution so that the auction can be successful.
The money raised from donations and from selling the exhibited items at the auction totaled 78.980.00 denars – 19.000.00 denars were transferred to the bank account by organizations and individuals; 4.700 denars were donated during the events; 9.500 denars were collected from the tickets sold; 37.710.00 denars from selling items at the quiet auction and 8.070.00 from selling items at the loud auction.
About 200 people took part at the auction. There were representatives from the embassies in the Republic of Macedonia, local government representatives, government representatives, business-sector representatives, as well as representatives from international and local NGOs.
Besides the provision of beds and the additional equipment for the Crisis Centre “Nadez”, “Antiko” gave its contribution for encouraging the development of the civil society in Macedonia by involving the citizens in the process of identifying the community problems and needs; it has also established cooperation between the government institutions, the media, the business-sector and the non-governmental sector. By organizing this event, “Antiko” contributed towards raising the awareness and the culture of donating and volunteering.
