Preparation for the local elections 2004

On 26 July this year, the Union of Macedonian Women Organizations (UMWO) and its members, organized seminars in Probistip and Veles as a preparation for the local elections in 2004.

The seminar in Probistip was called "Women on local level make a difference" and it was attended by 21 women from Probistip and Zletovo. The trainers, Savka Todorovska and Jovana Trenceska introduced the participants to the condition in the Republic of Macedonia regarding the question of gender and gender analysis in Probistip and they emphasized the need for joining and cooperation between the civic organizations and the women structures in the political parties. The Macedonian Women Lobby in Probistip was also promoted at the seminar. Its goal is provide better organizing and improve the women's quality of living in Probistip.

In Veles, at the seminar "Women are important on local level", the emphasis was placed on the realized activities of the Stability Pact - GTF in the South-Eastern European countries and the implementation of the first parts of the project "Women can do that++ and II", with a presentation given by Mira Trajkovska, a national coordinator of the Stability Pact (Working group for gender issues). Several conclusions were made at the end of the seminar: to strengthen the cooperation between civic organizations, the trade union and the media; to establish a Macedonian Women Lobby in Veles, as well as the gender commission; to carry out positive actions for greater presence of women in the decision-making bodies, and include them more in the politics and the public life.
