Conference on children organized by UNICEF and the Gevernment

Macedonia will be “A country tailored for the children”

In June in Skopje, organized by UNICEF in Macedonia and the Prime Minister’s Cabinet, the government held the first Conference on Children, called “A country tailored for the children”. The children rights for investing were discussed, children cast out by the society, as well as the children’s approach to quality primary social services. The most important steps of the relevant subjects in the direction of improving the children rights were agreed at the conference and the implementation of the Children Rights Convention, all for the purpose of making Macedonia “A country tailored for the children”.

“This conference is very important because of the country’s preparations for EU membership, and for the purpose of realizing everyone’s right, especially the children rights, which is one of the first conditions for EU membership. Becoming part of the European Union means opening the possibilities for everyone. However, we should not forget that children must be in the focus of attention when making the laws and the reforms. The Convention is the key step towards realization of the Millennium Goals by 20015, which are very clear, and the country is dedicated to their realization: elimination of the hunger and poverty, primary education for everyone, promotion of the gender equality, reduction of mortality rate of the newborn and the fight with AIDS”, said among other things, Sanaz Kjanijan Firuzgar, deputy-regional director of UNICEF.

The Government is willing to strengthen the children protection, that is, to follow the world trends set by the Millennium Development Goals, said the Prime Minister, Vlado Buckovski, and the Vice-Prime Minister, Radmila Sekerinska, added that “Macedonian children are European citizens and they deserve the right to communicate with their peers in Europe without any obstacles or borders”.
