New Initiative

Balkan trust

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), The German Marshal Fund (GMF) and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation announced a new initiative worth 25 million dollars for supporting the good governance in the South-eastern Europe. Balkan Trust, with a central office in Belgrade, will start operating this summer and it will be active in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro and Romania.

Grants of 2 million dollars a year will be awarded to civic organizations, domestic NGOs, local and regional governments, educational institutions and media for support to local initiatives that improve the relationship between the citizens and their governments. Grants will also be given for cross-border support in order to improve the development of the political and civil society in the broader region, which is necessary for long-term stability in South-Eastern Europe.
