LEAP of Gjorce Petrov municipality promoted
A paper for registering and selecting real problems
The municipality of Gjorce Petrov has promoted the preparation of its Local Action Environmental Plan – LEAP, made in cooperation with REC Office and the Swedish Development Agency – SIDA. The paper contains all information regarding the actual condition with the environment in the municipality. It contains two phases. In the preparation of the first one, the municipality realized cooperation with all public institutions, from which it was receiving true results on the condition of its territory. This LEAP has been prepared using the latest methodology promoted at the REC Office, which resulted in getting precise results in the field of environmental protection. The same methodology is used by the Ministry of Environment in the preparation of the National Environmental Action Plan.
The first document that addresses Gjorce Petrov’s environmental issues contains general information on the municipality, an evaluation of the condition with the environment (air, water, waste, soil and nature, a list of priorities and implementation plan). On the top of the list of most serious problems there are: the endangerment of the well zone Nerezi – Lepenec with its waste waters, the lack of purifying station and a drainage in the biggest part of the community, a lot of illegal dump, illegal construction works, illegal exploitation of sand from the Lepenec basin, etc.
“This LEAP is a strategic paper that will serve as a guide for all the actions we will take in future. The municipality is very specific, it stretches between two rivers, most of it has a rural character – and that is where most of the problems lie. Those problems, as well as the ways and the deadlines for resolving them are defined in the action plan”, said Sokol Mitrovski, the Mayor of Gjorce Petrov. Katarina Stojkovska from REC emphasized that the making of the paper is a tiring and exhausting job; however, it helps to register the real, the actual problems in one territory and to prioritize some of them. She considers this LEAP a basis for improving the conditions regarding the environment.
