Multiethnic civil society association “Florence Nightingale”, Kumanovo
Non-violence is the organization’s primary activity
The association “Florence Nightingale” was founded in 2002 in Kumanovo. Its mission is to raise the awareness and act against any kind of violence by developing educational and preventive programmes for protecting citizens’ rights and for a life without violence. “Florence Nightingale” is a member of the women center Kumanovo and it is active in the implementation of joint projects with the Center, supported by “Kvina til Kvinna”.
“Florence Nightingale” has achieved numerous results in the field of improving the multiethnic relations, especially with the young population, primarily by participating in multiethnic project for developing the volunteering with the women center ZNVO, where 12 members of different nationality are the leader of the non-violence programme leaders. With the young people from Kosovo, they participated in several projects for a “Life without Violence”, which is part of the East West Institute programme.
Among the project that have been implemented so far in various areas, we would mention the following: “Family Center”, “Summer School Struga 2002”, “English for children of mixed nationalities”, supported by Caritas Austria, as well as the projects “The evil of drugs”, HIV Aids”, Sewing and tailoring course”, supported by MPDL and the project “Improving the multiethnic relations”, supported by the American Embassy. The project called “Together against the violence” is realized in the Kumanovo-Lipkovo region and supported by IPK.
“Florence Nightingale” has organized tribunes, workshops, debates, round tables, etc., and its activities were presented in a number of TV shows. Its members participated in a number of seminars and conferences. The organization is a member of SOZM and a coordinator of GPKT for cross-border cooperation.
With its future activities, the association “Florence Nightingale” will continue giving contribution for improving the overall condition in the country and abroad.
