United Nations, Government and Partners to Celebrate "United Nations Day" 24 October


SKOPJE, 23 October, 2003 – On 24 October, 1945, the United Nations officially came into existence. Its charter was ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and by a majority of other signatories. Every year, on 24 October, United Nations Day is celebrated around the world.
 
In Macedonia, the United Nations are active through a family of 14 agencies – UNDP, UNICEF, WHO, FAO, UNHCR, IOM, UNMIK, OHCHR, UNOCHA, UNODC, UNAIDS, ICTY,  the World Bank and the IMF. Together, the United Nations family works together with the Macedonian government to further the ideals of the United Nations System and improve the lives of Macedonian people.

on United Nations Day, 24 October

On Friday the 24th, His Excellency Mr. Boris Trajkovski, and United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mr. Frode Mauring will address government ministers, the diplomatic corps, representatives of municipal governments, community leaders, civil society representatives and United Nations staff in a “UN Day Celebration,” to be held at 12.00 hrs in the Holiday Inn Hotel, Skopje.  Musical accompaniment will be offered by “String Forces” and “Okarina.”

UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Frode Mauring will also announce the winners of the first annual “United Nations Awards for Excellence in Journalism and Photography” prizes at the event.
