The Government does not take care of the citizens
In Macedonia, there has been a big division between the government and the citizens in the past decade. These are the findings of the non-governmental organization PEV Project for Common Vision, within the project VSP International for "Overcoming conflicts and building lasting peace".
The project was realized at the beginning of this year, through intense video and audio records with over 3,000 people from 24 settlements, in order to assess the democratic character of the country and the ways crisis is reflected in the various aspects of living. According to the citizens, the government have not taken care of the problems and the needs of its citizens, they have been left to themselves at times when they are facing an enormous unemployment, a sorry economic state and social uncertainty. The salvation from such a condition is seen in joining the EU and NATO. The questioned said that there is no hatred or mistrust between the Macedonians and the Albanians, neither between those and the other communities. "Macedonia belongs to the citizens" are the answers of most of the questioned, who see the future of the country as a multiethnic society. The question whether the country is a divided society, was answered positively by 58.2% of the questioned, and 33% said that it is unitary. More than 70 percent think that the laws are not obeyed in the whole territory of Macedonia, and most of the questioned do not obey them either. More than 90% answered that the laws are obeyed by the poor mostly. The citizens accept the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement, and accept its solutions as legitimate. Most of them find unacceptable the introduction of two official languages on global level, as well as the official use of the ethnic symbols.
