“Otvorete gi prozorcite” (Open The Windows)

New possibilities for the handicapped

The civil society association “Otvorete gi prozorcite”(Open The Windows) was founded in April 2005. Its mission is to promote and alleviate the approach to the information technology to the handicapped people. The association is guided by the belief that the information and knowledge should be accessible to everyone. The activities they implemented in 2005 involved 15 handicapped people who used the association’s services and who were provided access to the information technology. The activities are supported by Handicap International. A training course was implemented as well for 7 trainees from different institutions, associations and individuals who were introduced to the basics of the accessible technology, and after the course has terminated, they will have a chance to convey their knowledge in the organizations they come from. The innovation centre has prepared materials for the first four instructions on “How to do….”

There are more and more jobs where the knowledge of computer skills is necessary, and the use of computers alleviates the educational and learning processes. One problem when it comes to the handicapped is the need to adjust the computers. “Otvorete gi prozorcite” offers new and original approach for the handicapped people for their participation in the e-education.

The association’s team is located in Skopje, but their activities are going to be realized throughout Macedonia, with an intention to spread them in the broader region of the Balkans in future. The founders of this association understand the humanitarian sector and have a wide knowledge and experience in the work with handicapped individuals and their organizations. The team of “Otvorete gi prozorcite” consists of former employees at Handicap International. The association’s activities are financed by Handicap International France and E-Macedonia Foundation.
