Open letter from Afghan to Iraqi women

Right for all women

We are writing this letter as a sign for solidarity with our sisters in Iraq who are facing the post-war rehabilitation, similar to the one that has been going on in the last year and a half in Afghanistan. We encourage the Iraqi women to express themselves loudly in that process, put their mark on the future of their country and provide freedom for themselves and their children.

We are asking for more rights for women in their marriage, more rights regarding the divorce. We ask to be allowed to the Afghan girls to enjoy their own youth and not be forced to get married before they are even get the chance to get mature. We ask women not to be subject to trade, as if they were animals. We ask women to have a chance to take part in the political decision-making processes. We ask for more rights in education and better approach to gynaecologists and paediatricians in the health institutions.

Further, as soon as the present government takes over the leadership in Afghanistan, and as soon as the elections take place, 160 women representatives will get the guaranteed positions in the new parliament. Additionally, other women can be elected out of the guaranteed number.

Our hearts are with you. Our hopes, too.

In the name of solidarity Women from Afghanistan.
