"Pages for common understanding"
Interethnic relations through the journal pages
On 14 August 2003, the first page called "Megjutoa" (However/But) was published. "Megjutoa" is part of the programme called "Pages for common understanding", implemented by the Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation (MCIC) together with the Macedonian Journalists' Association (MCA) and in cooperation with the Macedonian Informative Agency (MIA), Dnevnik, Utrinski Vesnik, Fakti, Lobi and Vecer. "The pages for common understanding" tend to improve the public informing on interethnic relations in Macedonia and influence the media to inform objectively.
The general idea in the preparation of the Programme was to point to the differences that exist in informing on the interethnic relations in Macedonia. Those differences do not owe to the language of the reporter, or to his or her ethnic origin-they are also present among the journalists of the same ethnic origin. "Thanks" to those differences the readers or the viewers of a certain medium get a completely wrong impression regarding the events or the problems than those of another media. By the end of April 2005, "Megjutoa" will have been published 100 times. "Megjutoa" is also available at a HYPERLINK http://www.mia.com.mk.
The largest part of the financial support for the Programme was provided by the European Agency for Reconstruction, and some finances were also provided by the involved organizations and media.
