FOSIM

Cultural Decontamination

On 3 October in Skopje, the Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia (FOSIM) organized the first Expert Forum Within their Programme for Cultural Decontamination. The Forum was opened by the Macedonian Prime Minister, Mr. Branko Crvenkovski, and the introduction was given by the Foundation's director, Mr. Vladimir Milcin.

The Forum's goal is to open a quality dialogue on the cultural identities, ethno-cultural distances and military values in the post-conflict period, as well as to contribute to determining the common cultural values of the Macedonian citizens. The results from the four relevant researches, supported by FOSIM this year were presented at the Forum. Participants worked in three working groups on provocative subjects: Cultural tensions: individualism versus collectivism; Ethnocultural distances: how to fight them; and What are the common cultural values of the Macedonian citizens. The participants at the Forum were about 30 intellectuals - journalists, scientists, culturologists, sociologists and expert in other fields. Their theses on these topics will be published in a book.
