Mission “Human Rights House” in Macedonia   Macedonia is the thirteenth country where there is a Human Rights House, which is part of the eponymous foundation. The first “Human Rights House” was founded in 1989 in Oslo, Norway, and in 1992, the foundation with the same name was established with a mission to promote and strengthen the human rights in the countries where this network operates. “Human Rights House” Macedonia is a joint mission of NGOs (Macedonian Women Rights Centre – Shelter Centre; The Association for Democratic Initiatives – ADI; The First Children Embassy in the World – Medjashi; Helsinki Committee for Human Rights of Macedonia; and The Organization for the Protection of Handicapped People’s Human Rights – Polio Plus) who will promote the human rights together. “Our network is going to cooperate with other civic associations working in the filed of human rights protection in the country and abroad. The House is based on the principles of equality and democratic sense”, pointed out the President of “Human Rights House”, Mr. Dragi Zmijanac when presenting the newly established network of non-governmental organizations in our country. Anyway, of the thirteen countries I which this network exists, a house owned by the foundation was built in six countries (Oslo, Warsaw, Moscow, Sarajevo, Bergen and London), and in the other countries, among which Macedonia, their construction is to start soon. At the “Human Rights House” they say that the foundation’s headquarters in Oslo will help in the construction of the house, but Meto Jovanovski, one of the Macedonian Helsinki Committee Board members suggested that the Government gave the land for the construction of the house, thus proving that the authorities in Macedonia respect the human rights.   M.K.
