A survey of the Association "Prodolzen zivot"

Stop the chain!

The Association "Prodolzen zivot" has conducted an anonymous survey at the municipalities Strumica and Novo Selo. The survey, which was part of the project "Didn't you know they trade with people?" covered 350 respondents. According to the results of the survey, almost 63% of the respondents answered that the trafficking with people is a deceit and violation of human rights, while 37% of them identify it with prostitution and kidnapping.

As many as 61% of them think that the trafficking with people is highly present, and almost 23% replied that they know a person who has been a victim of trafficking. This only refers to the fact that the trafficking with people is something that has taken place in our nearest surrounding and to people we know, which of course makes the problem even more serious. The impression is supported by the fact that almost 30% of the questioned know the people who make profit from this "business".

The answers to the questions that refer to the reason for this phenomenon, place it in context with the general living conditions. 37% of the questioned think that the reason for increasing the phenomenon of trafficking with people is the poverty.

The encouraging think is that a large number of the questioned know where to refer to in the case of trafficking with people. Almost 68% of them are familiar with the existence of the SOS-line, there are many who would like to be educated on the term trafficking with people.

The project of the association "Prodolzen zivot" is supported by the Norwegian Embassy and the International Organization for Migrations.
