Museum of Macedonia
Cultural heritage, children and the water
The Museum of Macedonia has implemented the project called “Including the Roma minority in the museums’ educational activities”. The topic of the project was “The relation between the cultural heritage and the water”. Twenty children aged 12 to 15 from the primary school “Jane Sandanski” in Skopje took part in the several workshops within the project, which were held at the museum. They attended interesting lectures about the water in the ancient settlements, the aqueducts and the Roman spe baths, the fortresses and the water, the old bridges and Turkish baths and the water in the rural areas (the fountains and the wells). After each lecture, the children were encouraged to make a creative reproduction of the chosen monument. Their works were exhibited at the Museum of Macedonia and the exhibition was opened on 21 December 2005.
The project was supported by the Open Society Institute – Macedonia Foundation, within the activities whose goal is to contribute to the development of new museum audience and including the museums in the modern social currencies.
