Cooperation between the World Bank and the civil society

Thirty eight representatives from several civil society organizations from Macedonia who have had experience in the cooperation with the World Bank, took part at the one-day workshops called “National consultations for cooperation between the World Bank and the civil society in Macedonia”, which was organized on 29 March this year by the Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation. At the workshop, they exchanged and presented their experiences in the cooperation with the Bank and gave their recommendations for more efficient cooperation in the future. The cooperation is facilitated by the Joint Facilitation Committee of the cooperation between the World Bank and the civil society, a consulting group in charge of facilitating and finding transparent and democratic mechanisms for more efficient cooperation between the CSO’s and the World Bank on global level, which believes that the strengthened cooperation between these two subject can lead to more efficient poverty reduction.

“Although the results accomplished on the level of implemented projects supported by the World Bank are seemingly satisfactory, we cannot speak about some significant results or broader effects of the project itself. This is due to the short duration of the projects (6 months), a period which is hardly sufficient for realizing the impact of the projects implemented on the wider environment, or their multiplying effects. At those places where the projects are to become an obligation of the local authorities, there is neither a form nor a mechanism that would continue the cooperation between the local government and the civil society organizations in order to strengthen the effects of the project or to provide sustainability”…are some of the experiences being pointed out, which, together with the adopted recommendations for more efficient cooperation have been presented by the chosen representatives at the Word Political Forum that took place in Washington from 20 to 22 April.
