Nikica Kusinikova

Do not buy products that have been tested on animals

Professional experience: 14 years ago, as an ambitious graduated electronical and telecommunications engineer, I started realizing my big desire to work in the world of television. After a several-year lack of perspective, I started working on foreign development programmes, mostly related to the civil society development. In the meantime, I built up my education with a European Master’s Degree in Comparative Local Development. As one of its founders, I work at the Center for Institutional Development (CIRa) on encouraging the domestic philanthropy.

Engagement in the civil sector: In my student days I was engaged at the Student Council at the University of Ss. Kiril and Metodij. In the mid-nineties, I became a volunteer and an activist at the Association for Animal Protection “Srna” from Skopje, where I have been active until now. My professional engagement in the civil sector started in 2000 when I became a member of the Programme for Democratic Cooperation of the Institute for Sustainable Communities.

Hobbies and interests: My greatest passion are the journeys – at least for a day or two. I am also a passionate puzzle doer.

Toughest decision: The toughest decision I have had to make so far was changing my career – from engineering work to development. That was the right decision I never regretted it.

Ambitions: In my life, I would like to contribute to the world (or at least to part of it) and make it a better and fairer place for everyone.

In her free time she reads: Modern literature, magazines and materials I from work I take home with myself.

Where does she go in her free time? I visit Italian language classes and I do aerobics. After my intense working day, I want to relax and quite often after work, my colleagues and I go to a bar.

At weekends: When I do not travel, my weekend has a standard course. On Saturdays, I drink my morning coffee with friends in the centre of the city, then I have lunch with my parents…Sundays are reserved just for me.

Which national/local problem does she find especially important and why? Not respecting the laws, the passivity and the lack of personal accountability for the development of the country.

Which global problem does she find especially important and why? The global warming and generally, the environmental pollution. Another problem I would mention is the poverty.

What would she change in Macedonia / the world? The division in “???”: us – the good and the righteous ones and them – the bad ones who want to do us harm.

Advice / message: I would recommend the readers to be responsible buyers and not to buy or use products (cosmetics or hygiene) that have been tested on animals. Those who are interested in additional information can visit the web-site http://www.peta.org and http://www.prijatelji-zivotinja.hr/index.hr.php?id=80.

I could never: Unless it is a question of life and death, I could never wear fur, leather jackets or begs and I could never eat meat again.
