Ismail Krifca

Let us overcome the differences

Professional experience: I have been an interpreter for ten years now.

Engagement in the civil sector: My engagement in the civil sector started in 1994 together with the beginnings of the Association for Civic Initiative. It continued through various NGOs, both domestic and foreign (NDI, CRS, ODA…). I was then engaged in the Kosovo refuge crisis in the camps (ICRC), to finally settle with the civic movement “Wake up” – Skopje, where I am a member of the Executive Board in charge of the public relations.

Hobbies and interests: Traveling, reading learning languages, music, socializing, quizzes, etc.

Toughest decision: Maybe I haven’t had many chances in my life to make some especially tough decision, so I cannot choose any in particular.

Ambitions: I would like us to be able to prove to Europe and the world that we are really worth as people and experts and that we really deserve to be part of the civilized society.

In his free time he reads: All kinds of literature I manage to get, including foreign and professional magazines and newspapers (reading is one of my obsessions in life).

Where does he go in his free time: I have less and less free time, but that little I have, I try to spend it with my friends and my close ones, especially with my two nieces Arba and Fjola.

At weekends: When I can, I try to go out of Skopje and go to my native town, Debar.

Which national/local problem does he find especially important and why: The unemployment and the corruption. I think that if we solve those problems, Macedonia will be able to take pace with the other European and world countries.

Which global problem does he find especially important and why: The terrorism and the global environmental problems. I guess there is no need to elaborate on them.

What would he change in Macedonia/in the world: The citizens’ awareness that they can contribute a lot for improving their way and standard of living, and our politicians’ consciousness (of those on the top to those on the bottom) that the world has not be created just for them while ruling the country.

Advice/message: We can overcome the differences only by getting to know one another. IF we manage to do that, we would be able to live like real friends, like real people.

I could never: Wish bad to someone else se that I could succeed, or hate someone just because I don’t know them well.
