Students are dissatisfied by their treatment in the society

Most of the students are dissatisfied by the way they are treated in the society, showed the anonymous survey done between 20 and 22 December last year with 155 students from the dormitories and universities in Skopje. The survey done by the student organizations Macedonian Youth Press, pointed to the weaknesses the students see and feel in the higher education system. About 90% of the students lack trust in the current president of the student union at the “Ss Kiril and Metodij University” – Aleksandar Davcevski. “The students have very little or no trust in their leader, which is strange, since he got his mandate thanks to them”, emphasize at the organization, refraining from political influences. More than 90% think that the student beds are not allocated justly, but bought for the price of 200 to 250 Euros. Students are familiar with actual cases of bribery and corruption, but they don’t want to give them out. According to them, the higher education system needs reforms and bigger professionalism from the professors. Another big problem for the students are the conditions for studying, which, according to them, are not adjusted to their monthly expenses.

Half of the students questioned said their monthly expenses vary between 5,000 and 8,000 denars, few were those who answered they spend more than 10 000, that is, less than 5,000 a month. The survey was done at the student dorm “Pelagonija” where about 60% of the students said they were not happy with the present tenants’ council.
